I was so excited managed to find a copy on internet and it has now arrived, exactly the book I remember illustrations and all. However, Chio forgets what animal to be and chooses a chicken instead. We made four detective markers for each player. I love the atmosphere of this book, seeping from every page. I may be confusing that part with another book. Set mainly in a convent orphanage where young girls are trained to be musicians, this book is a fascinating look at 18th century Venice.

Collier's (the encyclopedia people) printed up a set of books called "The Young Folks' Shelf of Books / The Junior Classics" with multiple reprints ranging from 1912 through at least the 1970's. Sometimes the twins talk in a Dracula accent or do anything else that might drive Dorrie crazy. Madye Lee Chastain, Magic Island. I read voraciously growing up and I can't imagine how I missed the Anne of Green Gables series, except perhaps there are no horses. I was afraid it was some obscure, rarely read volume that I had a quirky affinity for....go figure! Alone in his cell, the Moon Man very cleverly uses his special lunar powers to slip through the hands of the law. She found a boy and his father and they took her to their house which had a gorgeous run-down garden where she found that she was named after a flower.

H87: The Magpie's Nest, which shows up in many collections. About half the titles are from Ed McBain's 87th Precinct series. What I remember most clearly about him is that he smoked cigars, and would blow smoke rings in the shape of Q's (and probably other things, but that's what I remember). Both books also reflect the spy-novel craze of the 1960's. Most contemporary Russian crime writers produce novels of simplistic sex and violent crime that sell in the millions but have little detection and even less literary accomplishment.

The translation was published at the end of August, and I'm very pleased indeed to say that my French publishers, Flammarion Jeunesse, have now decided to buy Arsenic for Tea! The same concepts have been applied to his take on the alphabet in this stunning board book entry into the genre. Mystery Readers International: African Mysteries: Not much online here, but if you have a strong interest in the topic, you might want to back order a copy of the journal titled African Mysteries (Volume 26, No. 1), from Spring 2010.
