While some of the plots sound less than cozy (a cult killing children, serial killer, etc), there’s no blood or graphic depiction of death. I'm almost sure I remember this book too, from the early '70's, and that would make me think it might be a Parents Magazine Press book since we had a lot of those. Lawson's award-winning drawing talent turn boring Mr. The visual style, famous song, and influence of the show all lead to its place here on this list.

I just looked up the cover online and actually gasped out loud when I saw it. I read it early to mid 60's in Grade school library. She has been writing poetry and short stories since age nine. Bold and energetic images that are at times playful may at times allow the reader to forget that each of these animals is in danger of extinction, but McLimans includes information at the end of the book for how to help save them from extinction! Certain in the Elementary English Review.

This sounds like Mystery Up the Winding Stair by Helen Fuller Orton. Seaman, Agusta Huiell, The Adventure of the Seven Keyholes, 1926. The story about Oliver going to the circus is from Elizabeth Enright's first Melendy book The Saturdays. When Beth meets a new girl named Jean, Jean asks, "Would you like to see my rock?" and shows her a wonderful rock that is especially beautiful when wet. Book 2, Davey & Derek Junior Detectives Series, The Case of the Mysterious Black Cat, won the Pinnacle Book Achievement Award.

Miss Grimsbee Is A Witch, Atlantic-Little Brown, 1957. He also has a Facebook fan page called “Forever Barnaby”, but he only has 4 fans so far. The abused girl and the boy eventually do have a relationship and near the end of the book they are all traveling to a dance together. The colour plates by Szyk are quite memorable, though I'm not sure I'd call them Rackhamesque, and there are b/w illos as well. That's all I rememeber, except that it was a yellow hardcover and was a considerably longer book than any I'd read at that age.

It's supposed to have been weekly reader book about a boy who sings to the moon. Encyclopedia Brown comes by his name honestly: he often seems like a walking book of knowledge. I'm fairly certain this is the same book I'm trying to identify, and I can add two specifics - the trick with the statue is that it physically points in one direction but the clues on the map form an arrow, with the statue location at its tip, that points in the opposite direction.

Alvin Fernald, Foreign Trader (1967) verges on science fiction. The Egyptian Cinderella by Shirley Climo – This is exactly what it says in the title. Jonathan Hart and Remington Steele are good examples. Bump Jump is "a strange little man. He wore a funny red, blue and green suit. He is bullied by the family cat, for one, and has a bird for a best friend that he must then consequently save from the cat. In a series of short poems we see the event and its aftermath from many perspectives including that of the murderer.
